Your Options Against Bacterial Vaginosis

Although there is not a clearly documented clinical trials for some of the over the counter bacterial vaginosis cure, you still have a choice of option to deal with the matter. I have attempted to list below some of the possibilities in front of you. I have tried most of them with mixed results before my complete healing :

  • Most women tend to look for home remedies that might help them cure their bacterial vaginosis in private. In this instance women have tried to use olive leaf extract, tea tree oil, yogurt and garlic. The use of yogurt has remedy to the bacterial vaginosis has been going on for decades but again, the dairy bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus) IS NOT the type of bacteria that lives in the vagina and therefore this treatment has proved to be ineffective. Tea tree oil, garlic and olive leaf extract have all been used to attempt to kill the unwanted bacteria; the one responsible for all the symptoms but the “good bacteria” are also eliminated, leaving the vagina without real protections.
  • Antibiotic medicine (oral or vaginal) is the most likely treatment your  medical practitioner will come up with. Metronidazole (marketed by Pfizer under the trade name “Flagyl”) or clindamycin (marketed under various trade names) are the favorite prescriptions. They can kill the problem causing bacteria but the underlying cause of bacterial vaginosis is left untouched and thus symptoms reoccur quite frequently.
  • Because more than half of those treated with the above methods experience recurrent symptoms within 12 months, homeopathic treatments for BV are growing more and more popular. They have worked for a number of women (including me). Beside, for about the price of a doctor visit or less, you can find downloadable instructions for natural home remedies: an option worth considering.

As soon as you become aware that something is wrong in your body (itching, malodorous fishy smell, abnormal vaginal discharge…) you must follow one of the above bacterial vaginosis cure because, obviously, the conditions will grow deeper if you don’t and it will impact every area of your life (if it hasn’t already). The matter is of utmost importance especially for pregnant women because bacterial vaginosis can create complications such as premature birth.
